Sharapova returned to Melbourne with victory

Maria Sharapova played her first Australian Open game two years after giving her the positive doping test for which she was punished for 18 months. The Russian beat the first round in Melbourne after winning Tatiana Maria from Germany with 6:1, 6:4. Her next rival will be Varvara Lepchenko or the number 14 Anastasia Sevastova, who took it to the last season`s US Open.
The five Grand Slam titles started excellent and dominated the first set by losing only one game. In the second part, her rival made it more difficult, even leading 3:1. Sharapova managed to turn things around, leveled for 3:3, then made a new break and led with 5:3. She had minor problems to finish the match, but she ended up with the ultimate success.
The 2016 Champion Angelique Kerber also successfully started his Australian Open. She removed her compatriot from Germany Anna-Lena Friedez after 6:0, 6:4. Kerber was more than convincing in the first set, not losing the game analyzed by tennis-picks and completing it in 17 minutes. In the second part, Fridaym was equal and held up to 4:4 when the former number 1 in the world managed to break it. Angelique has not lost since the start of the season and has scored a sixth consecutive win today. Kerber and Sharapova are the only tennis players in the scheme to win the Australian Open.
